The Power of Mentoring: How The Jewellery Collective Helped me in America

Founder of The Jewellery Collective, Kassandra Lauren Gordon, reflects on 2023 and the power of knowledge sharing and mentorship for herself as well as the wider community.

“As I reflect on the past few months since The Jewellery Collective's launch in September, it's incredible to see how much we've accomplished. We've hosted five events, welcomed a growing number of paid members, and created 15 matched mentorship opportunities. We're proud to be the voice for independent jewellers, fostering a community of knowledge sharing, authentic connections, and trust.

I'd like to share my personal journey of seeking mentorship from four members of The Jewellery Collective to help me refine my designs for my jewellery collection ahead of my upcoming US tour. I had the honour of exhibiting at three jewellery shows in the US - Chicago, New York, and LA. I won't name the mentors here, as I didn't ask for their permission, but I'm deeply grateful for their guidance.

They helped me develop my signature style and jewellery design language. My journey into jewellery design wasn't conventional, and I was even advised against pursuing fine jewellery in my jewellery courses. Having the opportunity to seek feedback from four established fine jewellery professionals was invaluable. I didn't need to take another course or seek external validation; instead, I had the support of peers who understood my vision and could help me refine it.

The Jewellery Collective has been a catalyst for my growth as a jewellery designer. It's a place where I've found inspiration, support, and a network of like-minded individuals who share my passion for creating beautiful and meaningful jewellery. I'm confident that my designs will resonate with customers and establish my brand in the US market.

I encourage you to join The Jewellery Collective and experience the power of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and authentic connections. Together, we can elevate the jewellery industry and create a more supportive and inclusive community for independent jewellers worldwide.”
