Tell us a bit about your story in the jewellery industry so far.

Founded by two friends who set out to disrupt an opaque industry, Taylor & Hart is a bespoke jewellery brand, combining a collaborative design approach with exceptional craftsmanship. Over the years, we’ve expanded across the world with showrooms in New York and London and virtual consultations available globally where we offer a heartfelt and hands-on approach to engagement ring design. Since then, We’ve helped thousands of customers seal their love stories with engagement and wedding rings that truly capture their love story.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The whole journey has been amazing, but perhaps one of the most rewarding moments was in July 2020. I became a dad to twin girls. Parenting is already full-on and with twins it was just another level. I took parental leave and in my absence the company continued, even breaking records. I was reflecting on the fact that our organisation had once just been myself and my co-founder, and was now being run by talented, hard-working and caring people with systems, processes and a culture that allowed it to have a level of autonomy and independence from myself. I think for every founder, that is one of our core aims and seeing it start to become a reality is very fulfilling.

What has been the biggest struggle you have had to overcome in building your business/career?

Raising capital has always been very hard. While fundraising you are often removed from day to day work that could help make the company perform better as you spend days and weeks emailing, calling and meeting with potential investors - many of which will turn you down, and some of which will ridicule you and your business while doing so. Nonetheless, when successful, fundraising has helped propel the business forward and so, while difficult, this work has still been rewarding.

Why did you want to join The Jewellery Collective?

The jewellery industry is an opaque one. Being part of a community is incredibly important to us–we’re all about collaboration, after all. The opportunity to build and nurture relationships within the jewellery industry means we can share our own experiences with others and continue to learn and develop from The Jewellery Collective’s members.

If you could go back and tell your past self something when starting your business/career what would it be?

Grow from a profitable position. It is really important for a company to be able to stand on its two feet and then reach for the stars. Failures will happen but if you can land back on your feet after every attempt, you will have the strength to try over and over again.

We love hearing about the inspiring work and diverse backgrounds of our members. If you would like to be featured you can submit your story here. We look forward to telling your story here soon.
